The last post on this subject I could find was in 2003. 89 240 that Randy S. found for me 5-6 years ago, $450 (116K) for the amazingly clean Brick at a dealer who did not think to try a new fuel relay, has become one of my all time favorite 240s, plain Jane though it was. It recently (150K) developed the rattling sounds from the torque converter area described in that old post from '03. We saw the separation of the concentric ring from the main plate (both encircled by the ring gear which was still solidly affixed to the outer ring/plate. Spot welding through the inspection ports worked well but only for a month or so. Yesterday, we updated the flex plate to one taken from a 93 240 ($15 PnP). The later one does not have the two plate construction. I am surprised this problem is so infrequently seen in our bricks that there are few posts. Oh well, took care of the dripping rear main too.
