Well I did it again. I bought another 240- this time I went Turbo! So far the car has had few problems but last night I think the Fuel Pump started acting up. Here is a breakdown of the events leading up to my problem:
Background:
- The guy I bought it from had parked it for two years, hoping that some day he would do something with it.
- I purchased it a week ago.
- The first thing I did was clean up the mess under the hood and I also went through the intake and cleaned out whatever I found.
- I found the fuel filter had been replaced less than 1000 miles earlier, so I'm thinking the owner prior to the last owner had done a major engine service (dist cap looks new too.)
The setup:
- I needed to go out to the airport to pick up my girlfriend. It's about 25miles each way
- Once i got on the highway I discovered that the OD switch did nothing, so I need to check out that circuit now. - I kept it at around 3000rpm/55mhp just to be safe
- about 2 miles before my exit on the return trip, I could feel the engine drop out briefly.
- After exiting the highway, it would idle fine but as I stated accelerating, it began to buck like the fuel pump was cutting out.
I do have some history/experience with the fuel pump on an LH-Jetronic FI system but am just learning about the CI system now. When I had a fuel pump go out before, I experienced similar behavior.
My question - Should I start troubleshooting at the fuel pump or are there a few little tricks I can perform to zero in on the problem. Again, my experience with either Turbos or CI (K-Jetronic) is limited at this point.
