A rant on "Racing' and Accel times (Drag) 200

I really don't get the whole "My car can do 10.4 secs in the 1/4 mile"
WHO CARES? so you can shift just right enough to get all that power.
Let's see you do that on a 400ft tangent to a 90ft rad left @ full tank of fuel. Is your shifting gunna be the same when you pull out of it? Are you gunna have to impose the Porsche rule "Slow in, slip clutch, rev high, fast out" ?
ok ok I honestly just DO NOT understand Drag Racing and NASCAR.
From a World Rally stand point i just don't get the statistics having that much importance. Everytime i see the helecopter or blimp view of a NASCAR race the first word that comes to mind in TYCO... C'mon, we ALL played with them growing up...
About 3 years ago i had a conversation with a guy who was HUGE on the whole "Fast Furious" crowd and had a 2005 Neon SRT-4 with a "stage 3" turbo - claiming to be 300+ bhp. All he did was ramble on how he stomped Mustang GT's n such... i let him dig a hole for his Ego to fall in... I then asked "So what can it do on corners?" His response was rather typical with all the Aftermarket Pepboys shopping he has done. Nothing about lat G's or Drift Control or % of Yaw/Roll. He then produced some time sheets from the local Redneck Drag Strip. I just grinned as he further reinforced his striaght line speed times.
Has this what it has come down to? Beat the next guy thru the Green Light?

Oh well... guess this is the price you pay for owning a RWD Foreign car in a Red State...
