940 Engine Whine

Hello Jack,

Serpentine belts that are not tensioned correctly make the noise that you describe. When was the last time you changed the belt? I would check/replace the timing belt tensioner just to make sure. Although I do not suspect the cam bearings, you could pull the valve cover and listen to the individual cam bearings while the engine is idling. Use a long screwdriver for a stethoscope if you do not have one handy.
