Can't get my 245 automatic to shift into reverse 200

My 245 wagon with an automatic transmission will not shift into reverse. The button on the side of the shifter knob will not budge (when the engine is running). The steering wheel is not locked up when it happens.

Is there a relatively easy way to diagnose this? I can usually replace parts (I've replaced the overdrive solenoid twice) if it's easy to get at. If the parts aren't too expensive, I don't mind replacing them if I can't trace the culprit.
