Oxygen Sensor The Cause? 700 1988

My ’88 780 with a B280 V6 has been giving me idle problems. When in park, the idle will hunt between about 400 and 2,000 rpm and when in gear you can feel it trying to run the rpms up and then down. It doesn’t stall out. This doesn’t happen all the time and the engine seems to run fine while driving. Gas mileage seems a little low to me – 15 to 16 around town.

I’ve looked for vacuum leaks and cleaned the throttle body and IACV. I’m wondering if the oxygen sensor could cause this and should I replace it anyway since I don’t know if it’s ever been changed and the car has about 190,000 miles.

Any suggestions?
