So my 740 sat without moving, on pavement, for nearly two years. I have tires on it that I purchased new in 2003. (Michelin Harmony)
After getting this car running again in January I noticed a rumble in the passenger front tire that I had assumed was a bad flat spot. (I have had tires make this sort of sound in the past.) This rumbling is pretty loud now and it is/was speed specific. It is not related to anything outside of the rotation of the wheels. It is not in the tranny or the engine.
And it seems to be getting worse. I have plans to replace all five tires (spare is old junk) with more Michelins. I have though to rotate these old tires to see whether the sound moves to the new location.
Then it dawned on me that if it did NOT move that it was coming from the wheel. If I rotate my tires and the sound stays where it is then the only real problem possible with that sort of result would be a bad bearing, right?
If it is my bearing, how hard is this to do yourself. I have a limited background in brakes and wheels and such and am a little afraid to mess with something like this due to a lack of proper tooling.
If I go to an indie what could I expect to pay. I am in the South where things are usually far less expensive than in most other places, but not always for Volvos!
Any ideas?
