I think the guy at Crutchfield is right. You may need to get a better amp for the front speakers. That may be a protection circuit activating at high levels. You are usually better off with a more powerful amp than a smaller one, since the artifacts created when a low powered amp clips (distorts) is more harmful to speakers than a clean undistorted signal from a more powerful amplifier. You could probably get something that meets your needs for less than $150. I would say a stereo amp in the 50 to 70 watt range (per channel) would serve you well.
