My wife's xc 70 had a sun roof, and it was the first car we bought with it. We have since bought two cars without sun roofs. Until I bought my "new" 740 Turbo, which of course has one. Which of course doesn't work. However, I have fond memories of the xc 70, and can't wait to get my sun roof to function properly again (crosses fingers).
My brother in law had an aftermarket sunroof placed into his 90-something ford escort. It was a very decent installation and never leaked. He kept the car for several years and never had any issues. They actually took the piece they cut out and used it to be the top, so it matched color and curvature, etc. it was a manual only roof, and it cost him between 400 and 600 (back in the 90's though).
You could always get a piece of glass as the top if they can't use the piece they cut out.
Overall, a totally doable installation, with just the question of $$$$$ coming into play, and finding a body shop you trust to do the work correctly.
Good luck with your project, and I'd be interested to know how it goes!
Cheers,
