SU-HS6s How many flats is too many? 120-130 1968

The reason for the adjustment range of the main jet is....to adjust it. Twelve flats is a starting point, and that you are 3 away from that point is just fine. The jet height really only affects idle mixture, and from your description of present symptoms, the engine appears to be running fine.
Even my rebuilt carbs will end up a flat or two apart when final tuning is completed.
All is well.
