Hi folks,
I had a strange transmission thing happen to me, and I hope you guys can shed some light on it. 740GLE, AW70L tranny.
I routinely drive in "1" on my half-mile dirt road, since I have to go 8 mph down and up 40-degree grades. After I got through my dirt road this morning, I decided to put it in "2" and see if I could identify a tranny noise I've been hearing in 2nd gear near 2500 rpm (sympathetic vibration...).
Well, I accelerated slowly, and it hopped past 2nd into 3rd and stayed there... like I was in drive and had pressed the OD button on my shifter (but the OD solenoid/arrow wasn't 'on' - and I know it works, because I tested it after this). My fluid seemed a little low when I checked it - at the 'min' mark on the hot side of the dipstick - but I saw no leaks or splatter, either (I think I just checked it wrong). There's not any oil in my coolant.
So what's up?
My shifter isn't loose, and it accurately puts my car in all gear positions correctly. I think I need a new tranny mount (sympathetic vibration), but I didn't think it would do this kind of thing if it were wore out.
Any help or suggestions of where to look are welcome. Thanks!
Ari
