Shift Position Sensor Malfunction 700

I have a '90 740 DL non turbo and one day it wouldn't start. Hotwire direct to starter with key in on position, starts and runs fine.

Okay, it's something in the ignition switch circuit!

Ignition switch seems fine.

hmmmmmmm.

So I made a push-button start switch that ran right off the battery and into my cabin and then back to the starter relay. Then duct taped it to the side of my center console. Nice n slick..... right. lol.

Anyways, one day it starts magically just from me hopping in and turning the key to start atonomysly. wtf?????!!! Grimlins!

I eventually figured out that if I hold the button on top of my shifter and push the shifter forward past park a bit, the car will start EVERY time.

Of course I have left the cheesy push button start rigged up because I just know as soon as i rip it out the car will not start with my little shifter trick.

SOOOO.....the question is:

Has anyone changed and/or adjusted this sensor before. How deep do i have to go and where is it, anyone have any instructions or tips?
