My first car was a 66 122S I bought in 1974. It could get 36mpg highway (imperial gallon) stock. Why port the head? If you are driving the car gently and just using it to get around, fix those things I suggested. There is absolutely no reason to get double springs.
I have no idea what improvements one could make to the oiling system. Run a good 10W-30 and be happy.
