"Hmmm, for some reason the wastegate wont go back far enough to re connect. the actartor would HAVE to come forward slightly to make it fit."

This is normal. Pull the actuator rod out and slip it over the pin on the wastegate actuator arm. Then use a cotter pin, or hair pin cotter, to safety it.

Been there, done that.
