Bringing my own parts to the mechanic 700

Having worked in a car repair business myself, I know that the parts we use are usually Chinese made and of dubious quality.

I need the timing belt, water pump, and oil seals done on my Volvo, so I went ahead and ordered quality European-made parts from FCP Groton.

Knowing full well the mechanics mark up their low quality parts to over twice what I paid at FCP Groton, I decided to provide the parts to save a few bucks and for peace of mind.

I called around and got various responses when I mentioned that I was bringing my own parts. They ranged from No, we won't install them to yes, but with no warranty.

So I am caught in a bind here. I don't have the time to do the work myself, and I want to use parts that I have verified are good quality.

Am I asking too much that shops install my own parts? Is this unethical or something?

I don't have 500 bucks to spend on a timing belt change and I'd like to keep this affordable.


Any thoughts?
