Replace Or Can You Adjust Tachometer ?? 700 1988

1988 740GLE wagon. Auto AW70L tranny. Recently I posted thinking lock up function was not working on my tranny as one day at 70mph rpm would be 3000 then another day 4000 rpm. I triple checked and my tranny is fine as is my overdrive and lock up function. So now I figure that my tachometer must be inconsistant. Can tachometer be adjusted ? Or do you just replace it ? Or is problem at starting end. Actually I am not even sure where that would be. At engine or tranny ? Mechanical or electric ? A sensor you can replace ? Thanks.
