Help with a B18B 1800 1967

Hi Guys.

First of all, Happy Holidays! Oh brother, doesn't that sound "PC." Merry Christmas, etc. There, that is almost better, isn't it?

So, I have a 1967 1800S that I bought in August of this year. 150,000 miles on what appears to be the original B18B. In '95 an IPD camshaft kit was installed together with new guides and seals, and a basic port/polish job. The head was milled and, of course, reinstalled with a new headgasket. Same time, a Weber side draft carb and steel timing gear were installed. Also, the oil pump and connecting rod bearings were replaced. Mileage was 120,000 at that time.

It has been started only once a week since 2004 by the widow of the original owner from whom I purchased the car. Now, it smokes on cold starts AND hard acceleration.

I don't have a gauge, so I have no idea what the compression numbers are. But, it drives very well and revs like crazy - pulls hard under WOT. So I imagine that the compression must be decent.

Could the rubber bits in the head have dried out? Time to pull the head again or could this work itself out as I drive the car more?
