I think the whole point of the armored cable was to prevent hot-wiring!

Anyway, I think if you are only trying to start the engine or run it for a short time, you can use a generic 12V coil, a well charged battery and a jumper wire at the starter. + side of the coil to the battery +, and - side of the coil to the points.

It's been many years since doing this, but if I remember correctly, you need the 12V at the coil and some way to get the engine to turn over. That's the jump at the starter. Then it will run. It will not charge the battery.

Keep in mind, the ignition switch will do nothing, and to shut the engine off, you will have to disconnect the power at the coil or yank the coil wire or something like that.

This info is given and drawn from a memory of 25 years ago, and you are on your own if you decide to use it. I have no idea if it's going to work or not, or if I've forgotten things over the years. I never did anything illegal with this information, I swear!

Hopefully, someone will chime in and let me know if I've finally gone off the deep end or if there is still hope.
