740 ac won't work

Possibly low on freon, that will cause "short cycling" which is fast on/off of thecompressor then as more freon leaks out it will stop completely. Bypassing the pressostat switch on the accumulator is a quick easy test to confirm. Pressure test with guage will confirm.
