I was having an intermittent problem. Dash lights would go out (and taillights). Coulda been the switch - pulled connectors apart. Things were allright for awhile and then fuew blew. I isolated it to what I thought was the wire going from the fuse block to the rear harness (when I disconnected that wire from the fuse it didn't blow), and I still had front parking lights. I ran a separate new temporary wire through the car to the rear connector area and fed the rear lights from that new wire. I jumped the turnsignal light wires and the brake light wires across the open connector - it was dark, I was on the road and this was the only way I could continue safely.
Now I'm trying to figure out which wire - if in fact it's the white wire in the harness from the front to back, that's shorted out.
I also swapped in another switch - I don't believe that I changed the position on any of the wires,
But checking against Ron's posted diagram my setup is different, though seemingly factory.
There are 5 teminals - strangely on the diagram one of them has no number, the one for the red wires to the dimmed dash lights
Also his diagram is for an automatic (year not stated) - mine is a standard.
How my light switch is hooked up:
58a - 2 black wires
56 - 2 red wires to dash illumination
58 - white wire
58b - 2 white wires
30 - white or grey wire
Ron's diagram shows:
30 - 3 black wires
56 - yellow wire
58 - white wire to supply side of fuse 3
58b - 2 white wires - to connector block under dash and to heater illumination
30 - 2 black wires - 1 to ignition switch and 1 to supply side of fuse 4 (bottom)
the 5th unnumbered terminal shows 3 red wires for dash illumination
can anybody help me out here?
thanks
Also. If Mike (Twombo) or Sean (s-r-c-) reads this soon and you have a spare light switch , give me a holler. I'm currently in Nevada City and would come find you to get one. Mine may be cooked.
