My '93 244 has had the "Service Engine" light on at start up (stays on for a few minutes) and then goes out.

1/ Is this a mileage based indicator for oil chnages or for O2 sensor replacement?

How do I get this idiot litht to stop as disconnecting the battery does not work. I also tried the plunger in the instrument panel but I am not sure what the ignition setting should be when pushed in or if it works as I recall that these are not always operational.

Your expertise will be appreciated.
