I've got a pair of HS6's on my wagon. Yes, the throttles have some wear, but I've had Carters Rochesters, Holleys and even a brand new Edelbrock that were as bad or worse, and still worked OK.
To bring everyone up to date, after a multi-year storage, I've been bringing the car back to life, and finally have it driveable. It's stopped smoking, oil consumption is WAY down, and it's generally running better and better. The rear main seal oil leak seems to have moved to the pinion seal on the diff! ;-P
The current problem is heat soak and vapor lock, and the difficulty in getting the beast restarted. Cold starts are fine. The heat shield is in place, and I've checked my fuel line routing to reduce as much heat gain as I can. I know part of the problem is modern fuel and low vapor pressure, but are SUs particularly prone to vapor lock? What are the cures? I may go back to putting a gallon of deisel in a tank of gas to increase the vapor pressure, it's worked on my Studebakers, but they never vapor locked as badly as this car. Does any one have any better ideas?
