ok this problem is driving me nuts...this is the last post ever on this thing.
car: '91 245, non-turbo, with abs.
problem: after some warmup, hitting the brakes, no matter how slowly, will most often produce a "pop" sound from the front. the sound is best described as suctioning a dent out or popping a cork. it sometimes happens when coasting without brakes too. brakes work fine before and after, although *i think* the brake feels a bit softer when this happens. this sound can get pretty loud--scares me and makes the guy in the other lane looking at me funny. booster check valve? i thought if that blows the brakes would be gone.
i also sometimes get a sound that's very very similar when the wheel is turned all the way to either side. this sound is kind of sync'd to front wheel rotation. not sure if this sound and the first one are from the same source. i could've mixed two things up--if so, the two problems came up at the same time.
neither of these sounds occur right after the car is started--they will ONLY happen after like 15-30 min driving. problem has gotten worse (louder sound, more often) lately. i don't think it's the ABS because i drove with abs relay fuse out and still got the noise.
any thoughts would be appreciated.
