Stripped Water Pump Stud Removal 200 1985

My son was replacing the water pump on his '85 245, occasionally supervised by me. But after I stepped away, thinking he was pretty much done, he tightened the bolts and nuts securing the pump to the block. Unfortunately, perhaps because he was using anti-sieze compound on the threads, he overtightened and stripped the two mouning studs protruding from the block. I was able to remove the nut from the outside stud by slicing sections off with a Dremel wheel, and will manage to get the inner off as well. While there's not enough left on the studs' threads where stripped to recut, there may be enough on the initial threads to hold a new nut with washers as spacers. If that's not workable, though I've dealt with broken bolts in blocks before, I've never removed these particular studs, and wonder how tough they'll be to get out, using PB Blaster, etc. I'm afraid a socket-driven stud remover will snap these little guys off before they loosen, compounding the problem. Any tips out there? Thanks!
