A/C Clutch GAP / shims -- Anyone know about this?

Hello,
I have another post regarding my A/C compressor not working when very hot (100+degF ambient temp), but working after the car cooled down.

I found discussion about this problem in 850/v70 volvos and saabs where over time the clutch wears down signifigantly enough that there is excess gap between the clutch and the magnetic coils. When the temp is very high, there is increased resistance in the coils, resulting in a weak magnetic field that is unable to draw the clutch in properly. The fix, in these cars, is to take the clutch out and remove some shims, to bring the clutch plate closer to the coils (back w/ in factory spec). Does anyone have any knowledge whether this procedure is valid for a '94 940 Seiko compressor? Better yet, anyone have a write-up on how to do it w/ this compressor?

Thanks a lot!
