The distributor breaker cam was froze to the distributor shalf. I got that off and cleaned it up. However, the plate attached to the bottom of the cam had worn itself loose. I had that spare distributor so I decided to take it apart and see if its cam would work. This spare distributor is a vacumn model. The cam look the same except the cam part that opens the points appears to be ground different. Can't use that. So I'm looking for a non vac distributor or parts from one.
I had the timing at 20 btdc because the engine just had no power at all at 10. At the time I didn't know the timing advance of the distributor was stuck. I was looking at everything else trying to find why the engine lacked power. I'm hoping once I get the distributor in proper working order I will have found my lost power.
I do have a question on fitting the breaker cam back on the distributor shalf. The Haynes manual shows a small washer and a circlip that goes under the felt lube pad. When the cam came off I found the washer but no circlip. That circlip holds the the cam in place. I didn't find a circlip when I took both cams off. I was careful sliding it off and watched for the circlip. The washer was there.
