light switch replacement. S90-V90

First off get yourself an Owner's Manual. Call 1-800-25-VOLVO or else visit www.volvotechinfo.com and buy one. There is so much on that car that you need to know.

Light switch. Get a Volvo part, not aftermarket. I got mine here at a Houston shop VPI-TAP 713-721-0505. I picked it up, mail order may have a ship charge. It was P/N 8622027, around $60.

You should get two putty knives. I got mine at ACE. Both are stiff, the blade doesn't flex. One is 1.5 inch with a chisel tip ACE #1204924, the other is 1.25 inch, flat tip, ACE #12731.

Also, I was able to sweet-talk the friendly clerk at my Volvo dealer parts counter into printing out the exploded diagrams for the instrument panel. Very helpful.

Look at the wood trim panelling around the light switch, note that it extends over the steering column in a "panhandle" shape. Use the chisel tip to gently pry under the left end of that piece. Use the flat tip to continue the lifting up until you can remove the engire piece. I think I used a wide flat-tip screwdriver, too.

Here I am taxing my memory, it's been a year.

The dash dimmer switch piece comes out easly now. Pull it, leave the connector on it. Then slide the light switch to the right a little, and use fingers to pull it out. When you pull the connector off, be careful to not let the wires pull pack into the cavity.

Now you can see how to put things back together. You will see that there are specific places where the trim panel attaches, use a hard finger push to get them in. Those wood trim things are high $$.

Good Luck,

Bob
