Gas gauge fluctuates, comb connector on back of instruement panel has bad connection

I searched the FAQ about this, and need more ideas on how to fix it. I traced a problem with my gas gauge on a 1993 940 turbo to the crappy comb type of plug on the back of the inst. cluster. I turned on the ign. switch, and watched the needle bounce around as I pushed on the connector.

I pulled the connector off and crimped down on the terminal plug on strip, and used di-lectric grease. It still flakes in and out. It looks to me that the connector (male) end on the inst. cluster is maybe a one shot deal, net meant to remove again and again? Just guessing, since I did not pull inst. cluster out, just working from under dash. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
