OIL FILTERS & THEIR REMOVAL- Just getting my hands "swedish dirty" for the first time,and at 60 years old ,I'm feeling like a young kid with his first car!I was going to change oil today, and read it can be a mess(740 turbo 1989)Independendly I figure a drill bit and portable drill,could help drain oil w/o the stress of a nail banged into filter(possibly negligible regardless)I am surprised to see towels ,aluminum foil and other methods listed as good choices for getting the job done( still with some mess);having not completed the task perhaps I'm missing some thing.(really)-is there good sense for not using a drill bit method when changing the filter? > ON FILTERS - Some years ago,I remember reading the results of a retired mechanical engineer who spent 2 years researching auto oil filters.His testing showed high marks for Puralator(puralator is the original oil filter going back to the 1920's) and low marks for Fram,very low in fact![To be fair I see that Fram has a new premium line]-Anyone tore open any of these filters Mann Volvo etc? >I know a german enthusiast who now believes 'Bosch is no longer the 'wondabar' it used to be. Volvo of course says use volvo filters Anyone 'swear' by another flter?Any research references?
