940 Struts and Shocks/Bilstein, OEM or What Else Should I Consider?

I have 135k on my '94 940. Front end linkage is solid, engine mounts replaced, center support bearing replaced and best of all, I recently had the wheels balanced using that special machine that matches the high spots on the rim to the low spots on the tire. What a difference that makes!

However, my mechanic has informed me that my right front strut is completely shot, left front is leaking and my rear shocks are pretty worn out, too.

Not surprising at 13 years and 135,000 miles.

I like the way that a Volvo OEM suspension feels. The shop wants $680 for parts and labor and says this will include OEM parts. Is this reasonable? Should I switch over to Bilsteins? I DON'T want the front end to sit higher, which sometimes seems to happen with Bilsteins. Should I go with Boge? Monroe? I prefer parts which last a long time and don't want to have to replace these parts in 3 years. I do mostly a mix of round-town and freeway driving.

Any and all counsel and advice welcome...

Markus
