changing back to dino from synthetic

Well, your engine might not last as long...

I think not driving a lot is a good excuse to stick with synthetic. There really isn't any compelling reason to change the oil every 3K mi either given the state of modern dino oils-- the recommended 5K mi interval is fine. If the car isn't leaking or burning oil, why not stick with synthetic and change the oil twice a year?

Here in Toronto we see the extremes of weather-- from -25C to +35C. Synthetic oil is great for those extremes.
