frozen ignition switch! S90-V90 1992

without any warning the ignition switch is locked - I've tried all the usual small approachs [turning wheel, shaking, different key, etc.]

Also, the button on the shift sometimes takes some 'working' to get it to depress and allow shifting out of park.

Service record show a PNP replaced 12,000 miles ago at 149,000.

Is the locked igntion related to PNP? What's going on? This is a fairly new car to me and I don't know its traits.
