Sean:

My advice, replace the down pipe and use an air chisel to remove the blasted heat shields! They can make some seriously funky noises! Sorry I mis-diagnosed a rare fragged oil pump. In the past when the heat shields have rattled on our bricks, it was pretty much constant across RPM.
