Cold start problems 200 1989

First thing I would check is the temp sensor (that feeds the ECU, not the dashboard gauge) and its wire. This guy has a negative resistance coefficient - its resistance decreases as it heats up. Specs call for 8260 - 10,560 ohms at 14F. 2280-2720 ohms at 68F, and 290-364 ohms at 176F. But chances are greater that the wire harness going to the sensor has the problem, rather than the sensor itself.

The '89 and later years also have a cold start injector which comes into play at VERY cold temps (5F and below) and only during cranking. Unlikely that that's a problem, based on your description of the problem.

Make sure you've covered the basics - plugs, cap and rotor all in good shape?
