George, I knew the grommets that hold the center bearing were blown before I got under the car but I didn't realize how far the driveshaft could move! There must have been 3 full inches travel. That night I ordered the grommets, motor mounts and the transmission mount from Joe and Kim at Swedish Treasures. They sent the parts priority mail and I got them in just a few days. I just got it all installed today.

Huge difference in noise and vibration at all speeds and RPMs. I knew there would be. But the howl is still there right at 70 MPH. The sound is definitely coming from the engine bay. I thought maybe it's induction noise but it just too loud to be the carbs.

This engine is on it's last legs anyway. I reckon you've seen many of these motors in their death throes. Is it possible that what I am hearing is blowby escaping from the oil cap? If there is sufficient pressure, it guess anything is possible.

I only need to get a few more weeks out of this engine. If the new motor make a similar howling noise, I'll investigate it further.
