On the other hand I have 2 16 valves, one with 403,000 miles on it and the other with 205,000. One had a head gasket leak when I got it at 180k, the other uses or leaks a quart every 2000 miles.
That's it, well you need to change the belt every 50k or less to prevent it breaking and smashing the valves. Valves are about $25 for intakes and $35 for exhausts. Then some broken valve guides.
The engines are Soooo smooth and very powerful esp. above 3000rpm.
I'd say they are no less reliable than any others, just the threat of belt breakage to keep you honest.
