What later model would you buy?

If you go the 850 route, I would recommend finding a 5 speed manual version. Fuel economy and performance are both improved over the 850 non-turbo automatic version. The Volvo manual transmission is also a very rugged unit and is less likely to cost you big bucks to repair than is a higher mileage automatic. Finally, since so few people are willing to drive a manual transmission you can find these cars for less money than the automatic version.
