Unknow Switch/Variable Resistor on Dash 120-130

All,

As the new owner of a 1967 220, In addition to the time spent scraping yucky purple tint off the windows, I've spent a considerable amount of time familiarizing myself with my new baby. So far, only one rust spot that will require sheet metal replacement, idler arm bushing shot, some brake work, suspension bushings, leaky gaskets (fuel pump, front and rear seals), and an m41 tranny that doesn't so much hold oil as filter it on the way to the ground. Nothing too unexpected.

The electrical system, however, has been victimized by the previous owner. One speaker was put in the cargo are on the drivers side, the radio was ripped out (though the dash is, happily, unmolested), etc. Again, all fairly easily put to rights. There is, however, a switch that I can't figure out what it hooks up to. Below (and slightly left?) of the radio opening in the dash, is a switch mounted under the dash. It has one brown wire hanging off it and appears to be a variable resistor with a distinct "off" position. Can anyone tell me what it is? The haynes manual is no help and a quick scan of the archives back to 2003 didn't yield anything. Any help is much apprecaited.
