how bad is this

I just checked inside the hoses going from the turbo into the intercooler and from the intercooler into the intake manifold. I already know the turbo is shot although there does not seem to be axial play, it's mainly radial play. But there are aluminum chips in there. Is this normal with a blown turbo? Can it damage the engine?
