122 tunnel basket? 120-130

Hi all, silly question.... After tiring of having random stuff flying around the 122 while driving I ordered one of the transmission tunnel baskets from Swedish Treasures.

Assuming that it actually fits as intended in as-original 122's I'm either missing something obvious or there's something non-standard with my car. Long story short its a '66 4 door with an M41 long shifter grafted into it by the previous owner. The basket will fit in front of the seats on the tunnel, but that kinda prevents use of 2nd and 4th gears. There's nowhere near enough room between the seats, which I believe to be correct / original, so what am I missing? Is the long shifter not supposed to go down as far at the top of the seats? (well, almost as far as the top of the seats....)
