96 960 starter replacement S90-V90

Getting cold in Northern OH and with temps below 40, upon startup, getting a loud screeching sound from engine compartment just in the past day or two. After car is started, sound will slowly disapate. Suspect starter not releasing due to cold. Will heat starter with heat gun tomorrow am and start. If that is culprit, how difficult to replace? Is it an item that can be greased or total replacement? Thanks.
