760 instrument cluster. Can I use an 88 in an 89? 300 1989

I made a flase alarm post earlier thinking I had messed up mu instrument cluster (IC) in my 89 760. Sorry about that.

The question. Can I use an IC out an 88 760 in my 89? All plugs are the same except the small one at the very top edge. The 89 has four pins for the connector there - the 88 has three. I am hoping that I might be able to leave one of these wires unconnected and have a working IC.

Sure would like to use this 88 IC I picked up to correct some things the 89 IC will not do - mainly a non working gas gauge. Volvo tech told me it was in the IC (reason the gauge is not working).
