changing from DOT 3 to DOT 5 140-160

If the master has already been run on DOT 5, then it's too late to say don't. That fluid is silicone based, whereas DOT 3 & 4 are glycol based. Are you certain that it was DOT 5 not 5.1 that was used? They are NOT the same, or even similar. DOT 5.1 is a synthetic that is compatible with DOT 3 & 4, but not 5.

As mentioned by somebody else, DOT 5 is not hygroscopic like most glycol fluids. This means that any moisture will collect and settle to the lowest points - bottom of each caliper.
