When to replace exhaust system

Our 240 has 175K and all has gone well. Weve maintained it and it's been a delight to own. Weve replaced many things (radiator, sensors) and are wondering if the exhaust system (muffler?) should be replaced. I know these can get clogged up over time. Is it good for the engine to replace it early ?
We want to keep this car another 100k if we can. BTW, the car is mostly driven on LONG 3+ hour rides, Thanks in advance
