I've had this '87 240DL w/ M47 for almost 3 years now... I LOVE it. Recently I've been doing some repairs on it - during that time i got into some fender benders with the idiot drivers in my area (insert explicatives) but i ran into some luck - due to the minimal damage my insurance total'd the car and I had finally been able to to GET the parts i was searching for for so long... When i arrived to the junkyard i discovered they restocked their lot with a '87 240DL which was also WHITE! Me and my GF spent about 2 hours and pulled all the parts from the front clip ($125.25) I came up with a pretty slick method of getting the parts home all in one piece - There was a '92 740 Turbo with Draco (?) wheels in perfect condition with NO scratches sans center caps (obviously a soccer mom WAS not driving this turbo) later i came back for the wheels which had some "ok" tires on them. I told the yard owner i didn't want the tires and he said they looked like crap anyway and just sold the rims for $30 a piece... He'd be surprised to know that thos same tires are still on the wheels and are doing alright! VolvoWorld has been a huge help in this restoration. I've replaced all the chassis bushings (fr & rr) and the engine mounts and the inner/outer steering ball joints... about to tackle some of the A/C components and some minor leaks coming from the timing chain housing... Also, a while back some little kid threw a 4th of July Mortar Shell in the slitghtly opened window of the driver's side and torched a fist-sized hole in the seat of which was part of a PRISTINELY maintained interior - Now i'm on the prowl for blue seats...
I took the car to the previous owner and let him drive it... he offered $2,000 to buy it back he was so impressed...
It's funny that most people would consider investing so much $$$ into a car that is very undesirable, even to the DuPont Registry, a complete waste... oh well
Like the ad slogan fro mteh movie Arthur -- Volvos: They're Boxy, But They're Good!
