Very interesting. I've had bad crimps on socket fastons, bad solder on circuit boards and even drowned relays, but never, yet, have I needed to get my burnishing tool between the relay contacts proper in a Volvo. How exactly, I wonder, did you use the multimeter to indict the relay, in circuit seeing a voltage drop, or unplugged using the Rx1 scale? Guess it pays to remember the basics, and that the simplest explanation is always the best.
Speaking of risking rush hour traffic. I thought I had one fixed last Saturday. Took it for a spin around the block and decided it should follow me home "to the shop" for a long needed maintenance session. Turned out to be a traffic hazard after about 15 minutes on the expressway. I managed to limp it along to one of my kids' home until I can come back and fix it right.
