I could be wrong, but I believe that asbestos clutch discs were "retired" (banned, whatever) at about the same time as asbestos brake pads and shoes.

Of course, any mineral fiber is bad, including modern brake pad dust, and you therefore should use a mask, but it's not as highly carcinogenic as asbestos.
