Another oil change question...

Learned something new while reading the recent post on oil changes. It's advised to FILL the new oil filter before installing... I've never done this on any car I've owned and have never had problems I can relate to this. Can anyone please tell me why filling the filter is improtant, or, if it ain't broke.....
