I recently switched out my dual HS6 carbs for a couple of early HIF6s with the integral float chamber. The HIFs were in really good condition, I disassembled them, cleaned them carfeully and re-assembled them. After the addition of the correct heatshields and linkages the car fired right up.
I've driven the car around town and found that until the car has really warmed up (well past the point where it ought to be fine) it idles fine, but the power evaporates when I'm starting out from stop sign. Not that the car dies, it just acts like it has no power unless I rev it up quite a bit. Adjusting the mixture seems to have no effect here.
Last time I took the car out, it was mostly fine ont he return trip, but when I shut it offf, it dieseled a bit. I recall that dieseling was a rather continuous problem on my 1972 dual HIF 145 volvo. I'm wondering if there is a general dieseling problem with the HIF6s?
Also, and advice on how to properly tune my carbs?
