Brake booster question. 700

A fellow employee has a 97 960 wagon for sale that he says needs a "brake booster". He wants $1900 for it. Exterior and interior look great. Has 180,000 miles. Wondering how I can make sure that's the ONLY issue with this vehicle before I consider it, and how much might it cost to repair/replace if it is just that part defective?
